All About Tequila Ocho
From the sun-soaked fields of agave to the meticulous aging process, Tequila Ocho exemplifies a dedication to craftsmanship and heritage like no other. Let each bottle take you on a journey through flavor and time. Visit us at Union Wine and Liquors in
2675 Union Road, Cheektowaga, NY 1422.
What is Tequila Ocho Known For
Tequila Ocho was founded by Tomas Estes, a world renowned tequila expert and Carlos Camarena, a master distiller from the highly regarded Camarena family known for their rich legacy in the tequila industry. Together, they created the “tequila ocho single estate philosophy” upon which the whole brand has built its legacy.
Single estate means that all the agave plants used to make the tequila are grown on a specific piece of land, often referred to as a "rancho" or estate, rather than being sourced from multiple locations. That said, the single estate philosophy that the brand is famed for places great importance on terroir - a french term referring to the unique combination of environmental factors that influence the character, flavor, and quality of the final product. Each bottle therefore reflects the specific terroir of the estate where the agave used in its production was grown, capturing the nuances of its soil, climate, and altitude to paint. With each batch of Tequila Ocho, connoisseurs can explore a variety of distinct flavor profiles that echo the unique characteristics of the land.
Tequila Ocho's Product Range
Tequila Ocho covers all the bases of tequila: from blanco to extra anejo. Here is a short list of their offerings:
Tequila Ocho Anejo Single Estate
Aged for a minimum of one year in oak barrels, this allows the development of a deep and complex flavor profile accentuated by notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak characterized by a smooth and velvety texture.
Nose:
Complex and inviting with aromas of caramel, vanilla, toasted oak, and cooked agave, accompanied by hints of dried fruit and spice
Palate:
Smooth and full-bodied, featuring flavors of butterscotch, ripe tropical fruits, and caramel, balanced with oak, cinnamon, and a touch of chocolate
Finish:
Long, warm, and luxurious with lingering notes of sweet agave, oak, and a hint of spice
ABV: 40%
Tequila Ocho Reposado
Tequila Ocho Reposado is aged for a minimum of two months in American oak barrels, allowing it to develop a rich and complex flavor profile with notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak complementing the natural sweetness of the agave.
Nose:
Inviting aromas of vanilla, caramel, and toasted oak, with hints of cooked agave and spice
Palate:
Rich and complex, featuring flavors of sweet vanilla, caramel, and oak, balanced with the natural sweetness of agave and a touch of pepper
Finish:
Smooth and well-rounded with a lingering warmth and notes of oak and spice
ABV: 40%
Tequila Ocho La Loma Plata Tequila
Tequila Ocho La Loma Plata is a premium unaged tequila crafted from 100% blue agave sourced from the La Loma estate, showcasing vibrant and complex flavors that highlight the unique terroir of this single estate.
Nose:
Fresh and vibrant with aromas of citrus, green apple, and fresh agave, accompanied by subtle floral and earthy notes
Palate:
Crisp and clean, featuring flavors of cooked agave, lime zest, and green apple, with a touch of pepper and herbs
Finish:
Light and refreshing with a smooth, slightly peppery finish and lingering agave sweetness
ABV: 40%
Tequila Ocho Extra Anejo
The Tequila Ocho Extra Anejo is a limited expression different from the Tequila Ocho Anejo due to its prolonged aging (typically lasting 7 years) in specialized oak barrels. This results in exceptional depth and smoothness.
Tequila Ocho Blanco
T
equila Ocho Blanco, also known as tequila ocho plata, is the unaged expression of Tequila Ocho. Made from 100% hand-selected agave sourced from single estates in Jalisco, Mexico, the resulting spirit is one that showcases the natural essence of the agave plant with a crisp and vibrant character.
Tequila Ocho Widow Jane
To avoid confusion, Tequila Ocho and Widow Jane are actually two separate brands - the latter being a Brooklyn based distillery renowned for its bourbon. However, they collaborated to create an extraordinary limited edition spirit - the Tequila Ocho Widow Jane. This collaboration resulted in a range of unique features that distinguish the Widow Jane Edition from other Tequila Ocho varieties. The traditional methods of Tequila Ocho, including harvesting from single estates in Jalisco, Mexico, are given a novel twist with the aging process taking place in hand-selected Widow Jane bourbon barrels. This encounter engenders a delightful exchange of flavors and complexities not typically seen in tequila.
