Herradura Tequila
Founded in Mexico, this storied brand has evolved from a local favorite into the globally recognized symbol of Mexican heritage it is today. Learn more about this luxurious embodiment of the classic Mexican spirit at Union Wine and Liquor,
2675 Union Road, Cheektowaga, NY 14227
.
History of Herradura Tequila
Herradura Tequila stands as a pillar in the world of premium Mexican spirits, embodying a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. This story of tradition and quality begins in the small town of Amatitán, located in the state of Jalisco, Mexico – the heartland of tequila production. With a focus on time-honored techniques and attention to detail, Herradura has cemented itself as one of the most reputable tequila producers on a global stage.
What Makes Herradura Tequila Special?
Besides having over 150 years of history in tequila production and maintaining traditional methods such as slow-cooking agave in clay ovens, Herradura Tequila has one step in its production that only a handful of tequila-makers of today still do: natural fermentation with wild yeast.
Natural airborne yeast works to convert the sweet liquid into alcohol - a process that is unadulterated and chemical-free. Once fermentation is complete, the liquid moves on to distillation within Herradura’s traditional copper pot stills, where it is heated and condensed. This dual distillation process is key to purifying the tequila, endowing it with its silky texture and a harmonious blend of flavors that is characteristically Herradura.
Types of Herradura Tequila
Tequila aficionados and casual sippers alike can appreciate the variety offered within the Herradura Tequila portfolio.
Herradura Silver Tequila
Herradura Tequila Silver, also known as Herradura Plata, is the purest expression of the agave essence. This clear, unaged spirit is bottled directly after distillation, showcasing the true flavors of the blue agave plant. It's perfect for a premium tequila cocktail or to be enjoyed neat for those who want to taste the spirit in its most authentic form.
Nose:
Typically presents a bright and lively nose with crisp citrus notes, complemented by subtle hints of agave sweetness. You may also detect a touch of herbal and peppery undertones, inviting you to experience its fresh and vibrant character.
Palate:
There are prominent citrus notes, often reminiscent of lime and grapefruit, which add a refreshing and zesty brightness to the tequila.
Finish:
Clean and crisp, with lingering notes of citrus and a subtle hint of peppery spice.

Herradura Anejo Tequila
Connoisseurs of aged spirits will gravitate towards Herradura Añejo Tequila. Matured in American white oak barrels for two years, twice as long as the industry standard, this tequila is a testament to patience and craftsmanship. It's perfect for those who appreciate a well-crafted, aged spirit and can be savored on its own or used to add a touch of luxury to sophisticated cocktails.
Nose:
Notes of cooked agave marry with hints of dried fruits, toasted oak, and a whisper of cinnamon.
Palate:
The forefront of the palate features pronounced oak flavors, with hints of vanilla and caramel derived from the barrels. This imparts a smooth and creamy texture to the tequila.
Finish:
Smooth, rich, and lingering, there's a subtle sweetness that persists, complemented by hints of spice such as cinnamon and pepper.
ABV: 40%
Herradura Reposado Tequila
Herradura Reposado is where the art of oak aging comes into play. Rested in American white oak barrels for 11 months—just one month shy of being classified as an Añejo—this tequila takes on a smooth, refined quality.
Nose:
The aging process imparts a subtle amber hue and enriches the spirit with nuances of vanilla, caramel, and a touch of spice.
Palate:
Strikes a delicate balance between the spiciness of the agave and the sweet notes from the wood.
Finish:
Smooth and lingering, characterized by a harmonious blend of oak, vanilla, and subtle agave sweetness. It offers a warm and velvety texture on the palate, with a touch of spice that adds depth to its complexity.
ABV: 40%
Herradura Ultra Tequila
Herradura Ultra is a striking innovation that combines the finest aged Añejo and Extra Añejo tequilas with a hint of pure agave nectar and a special filtration process to create a tequila of unparalleled smoothness and clarity. Herradura Ultra is an exquisite choice for those who want a refined and modern tequila experience, whether served in a chilled shot glass or as the base of a premium mixed drink.
Nose:
Presents rich aromas of oak, vanilla, and caramel from the extended aging process, alongside subtle hints of dried fruits and spices.
Palate:
Oak still dominates the palate but there is an added depth of flavor that includes hints of dried fruits such as figs and raisins, adding a layer of sweetness and complexity to the palate.
Finish:
Exceptionally smooth and lingering, characterized by rich notes of oak, vanilla, and caramel from its extensive aging process.
ABV: 40%
